Guide on 2006 Corvette M6 BCM fix with GM Tech2

Car model and year: 2006 Corvette M6

Symptom description:
The new column lock replacement parts have been installed in my 2005 M6 and now I need to instruct the BCM to ignore any odd codes from the column lock as a part of the fix outlined in the TSB.

Tool to use:
GM Tech2
TIS2000

Guidance:
Will need to pick up a Ac Delco subscription for $40 to start with so you can get access to the new firmware file.
https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions
Next, if you don't have a rs-232 port on your laptop, will need to buy the needed USB cable so you can connect the tech II to your laptop on a USB port.
gm-tech2-do-bcm-fix-for-2006-corvette-m6-01
Now the easy part, Put the tech II into pass through mode, connect it to the car with car in run mode motor off, and bring up TDS on your machine to use SPS.
Now using TDS SPS, run through it until you get to the modules mode, and and select Body control module.
In the firmware selection screen utility to disable the steering control lock in calibration, and flash that it.
This will cover you to see what to select the firmware file to flash in.

FYI, it's a new file and one that will not be in TIS2000 unless you have an active account that can connect to GM to pull the needed updated firmware file that was just released this year. Most don't, so TDS for $40 for two years it the cheaper option.

A frustration to be solved:
Got the usb to rs232 cable and the $40 subscription but cannot for the life of me get the laptop to connect to the Tech2 and the car. I am getting messages from the website to restart my programming interface and when I log in and try to add the VIN, the website takes me to a bunch of warning messages and unread alerts. Once I get SPS up and try to run the process after selecting the Tech2 pass through mode and checking the connection, I just get error messages. I have gone the rough the connection and login process several times and followed the connection instructions on SPS exactly. I don't know if I need to enter the VIN someplace but can't seem to do that. The Tech2 connects to the car fine so it has to be the web, laptop, tech2 connections that is not happening..

Solution:
When you start SPS the first time, you have to set it up correctly. There are a few programs that you needed to download and install, as well as allowing a few sites to get through, then final Java updates that are needed.
After this and you have sps start up, when you get the first pop in SPS , did you install the Tech II J2534 driver or not?

Lastly, with Tech II connected to the machine, go in device manager and make sure that the tech II is showing up in the list as well.
Also to point out, not sure where you bought your Tech II kit from, but should have come with a candi module from the start that should be in play.

Myself, I just use a VX nano most of the time, since the VX driver works for SPS (don't have to load either bosch drivers), nor play the extra candi/usb cord since the usb cord that comes with it is all that is needed for SPS programming.

How to install TIS2000 for Saab (TIS2008-2) for Tech 2

For anyone happy using TIS2000 for Saab (TIS2008-2) follow these steps:
First, get your hands on a Tech 2 handset, CANDI and cables etc. Make sure you are confident that your serial connections are good.
1. You will need a TIS2000 USB key and patch for activation (can be bought for little money or sourced elsewhere)
2. Download and install TIS2000 for GM/NAO. You may be prompted to install the USB key – just follow the steps. When finished, don’t run the TIS2000 program.
3. Download Saab TIS2008-2. Insert into same physical/virtual CD drive you installed the TIS2000 GM from (drive letter needs to be the same).
4. Launch TIS2000 from desktop icon/start menu
5. TIS2000 should detect available update (Saab TIS-2008). OK this and let it run.
6. If you haven’t installed the USB key and patch do this now.
7. Launch TIS2000 and click on SPS or security access to ensure it works
8. Enjoy!
I believe this will allow re-programming of models up to 2008 only, so if you have a later model, you’ll probably need GlobalTIS.
If you’ve bought a clone Tech 2 unit I’d recommend throwing away the supplied flat RJ45/ethernet cable and replacing it with a standard ethernet cable (not cross-over) as mine was faulty and caused many headaches! The correct pin-out is provided by the RJ45 to D9 adaptor. For those interested, only pins 4 and 5 on the RJ45 socket are used (TX/RX).

IMPORTANT:
You may well have a couple of issues getting the software running initially. If your web browser refuses to connect to the TIS2Web service, it’s likely that one of the two GlobalTIS services are not running. To fix this, open the ‘services’ console either by
Start>Run and type “services.msc”
OR
Right-click ‘My Computer” select ‘Manage’ and drill down to the services icon on the left pane.
There are two services that should be running and they’ve got obvious names, something like GlobalTIS and TC6 (not near my TIS PC at the moment) and sit next to each other in the services list. In the information pane they should say ‘started’. If not, right-click and select ‘start’. If this fails with an error, try modifying the registry key below.
To open registry editor Start>Run regedit BE CAREFUL MODIFYING THE REGISTRY – YOU CAN REALLY SCREW YOUR PC UP!!!!!
In the left pane, expand the keys until you find the following
HKLM\Software\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun2.0\Global TISTC6\Parameters\Java\JvmMx
Change the value of this key from 0X0000044 to 0X00000200 and exit the registry. Try to restart the service – you should find it now works. Don’t ask me why, I got this fix from another forum – fair play to the guy who found it.
Hope this helps someone!

CM Tech2 Review: TIS2000 Installation Solutions

I bought a gm tech 2 which can diagnose vehicle by myself. I had been confused by various car problems in a long time, because I could not figure out them myself sometimes and tired of service departments not knowing what’s going on.

Sometimes I feel that I’m actually even smarter than most techs that work in the service departments at dealerships. And if I’m not any smarter, at least I’ll care more, and take the time to figure it out because it’s my own vehicle.

I had looked through lots of diagnostic tools, GM tech 2 diagnostic scan tool seemed the best one of them and so it is.

I received the tool with TIS2000 CD for TECH2 GM Car Model Software which can support for till 2007 year GM car programming.

The Tech 2 unit (handset) can be used to interrogate the various management modules on the car (ECU) to report status, fault codes and perform manual activation and monitoring in the event of fault occurrences/engine management light occurrences. This in itself is incredibly useful, but it is also possible to reprogram modules within the car to change various functions and add or replace faulty modules and programme keys. Whilst the diagnosis side can be performed standalone, to be able to actually change settings on the car, Tech 2 ‘Security Access’ is required, which means activating the Tech 2 handset via PC software.
Tech 2 unit

Software installed:

Install the GM TIS2000 application (needs to be Windows XP, 32-bit operating system). There are normally two discs. One is the app, the other is the GM update disc, which is not required. If this is the case, install the first disc only but don’t run up the application on completion. If you didn’t get it with a clone, you can get a copy with the USB dongle. If prompted to select a registration method, select USB Key and OK the prompts.
All that is now required is to activate the software to get security access (enable Tech 2 programming). To do this you’ll need a USB key and patch available from the same sources as the clone Tech 2 units.

There is a video:

Hardware issues:

You can check you have RS232 COMMS using the GM TIS2000 install and going into the Tech 2 View option. Don’t mess about with serial port settings etc as if there is a physical connection there it will work without interference. pins 4 and 5 of the RS485&RS232 socket are actually used.

Test: Tech 2 can/cannot fully record GM card through TIS2000?

This is my experience pack software using Tech 2 RS232 and TIS2000
tech2-tis2000-review-1
Today, I will test myself to check if they can not fully record your memory card through TIS2000 software or not, because yesterday I wrote them by the laptop, looking ahead of you, I just want to remove the old soft.
tech2-tis2000-review-2
tech2-tis2000-review-3

As in my laptop with no DB9 I used the adapter. Also found a Bulletin in which there is an adapter, which recommends itself BOSH.

One photo from the series is not enough, I forgot to do, where the choice of what you want to write to the card, and what it is now.

So someone wrote that his Tech 2 does not see the GM card. The U32 he is the same as U33. If you are sure that you are right.

(Solved)Tis2000 error “cannot connect with security server”

Customer issue: I have a tech II with Saab v148.o card in it. I have tried from Globaltis(Cracked) and TIS 2000 (Hardware key) but cannot gain security access.
Tis2000 gives me the error “cannot connect with security server”
Globaltis just says “error” when trying to gain security access.
I know it is communicating with the tech ii, because during the security check the tech goes from the home screen to “downloading”.
I am using a laptop with a TRENDnet TU-S9 USB to Serial Converter running XP SP3. I have java version 6 update 12 running.
The only think I’ve noticed is the when starting globaltis it states “SAAB Automobile AB v146.00”. I have the 148 SAAB PCIAM card, do not know if that could be affecting it or not.

Customer solution from mhhauto forum:

Very important.
Here in the forum two types of SAAB v148.000 PCMCIA was shared
One for Tech2 hand held and one cracked for Tech2 Win
In Tech2 hand he'll only the one for its working
If its the right card uploaded in your tool card then go Security and do it
Try Java v 6.26
Its the best for GlobalTis or Java v7.0
Do you have it or not installed the SAAB v148.000 PCMCIA installed and can you connect to your SAAB car?
If not you can find this PCMCIA SAAB v148.000 for Tech2 hand held in the forum ( Not the one for Tech2win ) and use Card writer to flash you PCMCIA or MCE software
Or
use the advise of Mr. techamp (try to re-flash your Tech 2 PCIMA card with Globaltis so your hardware and software match. i believe version on globaltis is 146.00.) and use the SAAB GlobalTis to write your PCMCIA card
Then go to your card and check if the diagnostic is possible
Then connect again the Tech2 with the computer ->power it up ->run the GlobalTis-> use Security
Then you can do any SPS Programming in your car
Good luck
